Serendipity

About 6 months ago, I saw Franz Ferdinand on some European music awards show, and holysweetgawddamn! they were sweet. I spent the next afternoon searching for some footage of the performance on the internet, but to no avail. My efforts tapered off, but never haulted completely. Even now, every once in a while I will take a minute to do a search - never with any luck.

Well, this morning was seredipitous. I slept in and ended up watching TV while blow-drying my hair about an hour and a half after when I am usually doing the same thing. I literally sat down, turned on the tellie, and without thinking, turned to MuchMusic. I had time to untangle the cord of the blow-dryer before my boys were introduced on stage. It wasn't even a different performance - same awards show and everything.

Christ, Alex Kapranos has the most beautiful mouth I have eva seen. I love everything about it, especially the fact that it sings such sweet, sweet pop songs.

Oh, lawd! Give me the strength to resist!

Alot Like Love is a movie I am just. Not. Allowed. To. See.

How I am going to change the DSU

I was doing a Dalhousie Association of Graduate Students survey today, and the questions alone pointed out to me that the Dalhousie Student Union (DSU) doesn't give a crap about graduate students - probably the reason why grad students don't vote. I had a brain wave that I though might move grad students to vote, and might move the DSU to do something for grad students.

I am going to run for DSU president next year on a platform that I will work ONLY on graduate student causes, and will ignore or suppress and undergrad-related causes. Not only will it get my peeps out in record numbers (i.e. >1), but my opponents will have to address grad student issues on their platform in order to atract the new vote. And there is a slim chance that I could actually win. This year's president won with a vote of 1300. There are over 5000 grad students on campus, so less than half of the grad students would have to vote (and vote for me) in order for me to win, and take over the DSU (muhahahahaha!).
